In a significant moment for Special Olympics India, Dr. Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics India, recently unveiled the new jersey for athletes participating in the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocce and Bowling competition. This prestigious event will take place in New Delhi and promises to bring athletes from across the world together for an inspiring celebration of sportsmanship.
The competition will focus on athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) aged 22 and above. It marks the first time India has hosted an international Special Olympics event for senior athletes, offering a platform for those whose participation in sports tends to decrease with age. Over 100 athletes from 12 countries, representing regions such as East Asia, Europe, and Asia Pacific, will be participating in this unique event.
The collaboration with the Tenpin Federation of India has also added a historic element to the event by including bowling as a competitive sport, a first for Special Olympics India.
Dr. Mallika Nadda’s Vision for Special Olympics India
Dr. Mallika Nadda expressed her excitement about the competition, emphasizing the importance of the event not just in terms of sports but as a celebration of determination and the human spirit. “This competition is more than just sports; it is about showcasing the power of courage, resilience, and unity. We are proud to have Shivani as our Athlete Ambassador, and we believe this event will create lasting memories for athletes, families, and supporters alike,” said Dr. Nadda.
She further invited everyone to join this incredible journey, saying, “We will witness stories of triumph and friendship, highlighting the greatness that emerges when we come together to support each other.”
Shivani: A True Role Model for Athletes with Disabilities
Shivani, a celebrated cyclist and three-time gold medalist in the Summer Olympics, has been named the Athlete Ambassador for Special Olympics India.
