Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja have bought Mumbai’s iconic music store, Rhythm House, for ₹47.84 crore. This landmark, which was once a beloved destination for music lovers, closed its doors in 2018 after decades of operation. The 3,600-square-foot property, located in the heart of Mumbai, holds a special place in the city’s musical history.
Bhaane Group, a fashion and clothing company owned by Sonam and Anand, has confirmed the deal but has not shared specific financial details. Anand Ahuja’s family business, Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., is one of the largest apparel manufacturing companies in India, supplying brands like H&M, Uniqlo, and Decathlon.
Rhythm House was previously owned by Nirav Modi’s company, Firestar Diamond International, which was shut down following a multi-billion-rupee loan default scandal with Punjab National Bank. After being closed, the property was sold under the supervision of the Indian Bankruptcy Court.
Reviving a Musical Landmark
Rhythm House, built in the 1940s, was a hub for vinyl, cassette, and CD lovers. It hosted iconic musicians like Pandit Ravi Shankar and international stars like Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. Bollywood stars were also frequent visitors. However, with the rise of digital streaming and piracy, the store became less relevant to the modern music industry.
Sonam and Anand’s purchase marks a new chapter for Rhythm House. According to sources, the couple plans to breathe new life into the space. Whether it will remain a place for music lovers or take on a new retail venture is yet to be seen.
This deal not only revives the memories of a past era but also signals new possibilities for this historic location in Mumbai.
