Held at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association, the four-day event, organized by Pickleball World Ranking (PWR), featured top players from around the world. The 25-year-old Bhatia made his mark by clinching titles in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles within a few hours, demonstrating his skill and determination.
A Thrilling Journey to Victory
Armaan’s first win came in the men’s singles final against top-seeded Dustin Boyer. After a nail-biting match, Armaan turned the game around despite early setbacks. He lost the first set 8-11 but made an incredible comeback, taking the next two sets 11-9 and 11-8. His composure under pressure and strategic play earned him the first title of the day.
Next up was the mixed doubles final, where Armaan paired with Roos Van Reek from the Netherlands. The duo faced stiff competition from Danny Townsend and George Wall but prevailed in three sets, winning 11-5, 10-11, and 11-1 to secure the second title.
Armaan’s day of triumph ended with the men’s doubles final, where he partnered with India’s Harsh Mehta. The pair showcased dominance from the start, defeating the Australian duo of Mitchell Hargreaves and Roman Istraja in straight sets, 11-4 and 11-2. This victory sealed Armaan’s triple crown achievement, making him the standout performer of the tournament.
India Masters Pickleball Tournament: A Global Affair
The India Masters Pickleball Tournament 2024, held from October 24-27 in Delhi, saw the participation of 750 players from various countries, competing for a prize pool of $50,000 (around ₹42 lakh). The event attracted top names, including America’s No. 1 player Sophia Seving and Dustin Boyer. From India, alongside Armaan Bhatia, players like Aditya Ruhela also gave strong performances.
This tournament not only highlighted Armaan’s talent but also reflected the growing popularity of pickleball in India. His remarkable wins, especially in front of a global audience, indicate a bright future for Indian pickleball on the international stage.
