Country music star Kacey Musgraves’ beloved dog, Pepper, had a close call with a rattlesnake while on a walk with Musgraves, and now, the loyal Australian cattle dog is recovering at home. Musgraves shared the scary encounter on Instagram, thanking her courageous pet for potentially saving her from stepping on the venomous snake while barefoot.
Musgraves revealed in her Instagram Stories on October 27 that Pepper had spotted the snake first and quickly stepped in, getting bitten in the process. “Copperhead: 1, Pepper: 0,” she captioned the update, grateful that her dog’s quick instincts may have prevented her from serious harm.
Rushed to the Vet for Antivenom Treatment
After the bite, Musgraves immediately took Pepper to the vet, where the dog received critical antivenom treatment. The “Slow Burn” singer documented the process, sharing photos of her brave companion hooked up to an IV. The antivenom treatment helped stabilize Pepper, although Musgraves noted that the bite left her typically high-energy Blue Heeler feeling lethargic.
“The bite made her lethargic,” Musgraves wrote, referencing the quiet, laid-back state of her usually lively pet. “Those who have Blue Heelers know they ain’t ever this calm.”
At-Home Recovery and Lots of Love
As of Sunday, Pepper is back at home, resting comfortably and receiving plenty of care. Musgraves posted a few updates showing Pepper resting, including a photo taken at the vet’s office that highlighted bruising inside her mouth and down her neck from the snakebite. She captioned it, “This is wild but the vet was showing me how the inside of her mouth and all down her neck is so bruised from that damn snakebite.”
