Salman Khan has announced the upcoming release of a highly anticipated docuseries titled ‘Angry Young Men,’ which will explore the incredible journey of legendary Bollywood screenwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, known together as Salim-Javed. The series is set to premiere on August 20 on Prime Video, available in India and over 240 countries worldwide.
About ‘Angry Young Men’
The three-episode docuseries ‘Angry Young Men’ delves into the lives and careers of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, the iconic duo behind some of Bollywood’s most memorable films of the 1970s, including Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewar, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Don, and more. Salim-Javed redefined Indian cinema by creating the “Angry Young Man” archetype—a character who captured the nation with his rage, rebellion, and quest for justice.
Produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media and Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, the docuseries is directed by Namrata Rao, marking her debut as a director. Executive producers include Salman Khan, Salma Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti.

May they enjoy this time with happiness and good health. Long live the kings of story, screenplay, and dialogue.”
Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar Share Their Thoughts
Zoya Akhtar, daughter of Javed Akhtar, shared her thoughts on the docuseries, saying, “‘Angry Young Men’ is the story of two men who created a defining character in 70s Hindi cinema. It’s about their incredible journey from small towns to the silver screen, and how they poured their hardships, heartbreak, and style into their films.”
Farhan Akhtar, also a producer of the series, reminisced about the inseparable bond between Salim and Javed, recalling how they were always referred to together as “Salim-Javed.” He emphasized that their journey was driven by determination, passion, and a desire to change Hindi cinema, particularly how writers were perceived. “They succeeded and left an everlasting mark, inspiring generations even today,” Farhan said.
