Kangana Ranaut, known for her fearless attitude and outspoken nature, has made headlines again with her candid revelations about rejecting offers from some of Bollywood’s biggest stars. As she gears up for the release of her much-anticipated film Emergency, where she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Kangana has opened up about why she chose not to work with Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan, despite the opportunities.
Turning Down Akshay Kumar’s Films
During a recent interview with Navbharat Times (NBT), Kangana shared that she was approached by Akshay Kumar for several films, including the 2015 comedy-action film Singh is Bliing. However, Kangana refused the offer. When Akshay inquired about her reasons, she explained that the roles he was offering did not align with her principles.
Kangana recalled, “When Akshay called me for Singh is Bliing, I declined the role. He asked why, and I told him, ‘Please understand, you have a daughter too. I want roles that give respect to women, and I didn’t find that in the roles you were offering.'”
Despite her refusals, Akshay continued to offer her more projects, leading him to ask if she had a personal issue with him. Kangana clarified that she had no problems with him as a person but was simply looking for more meaningful roles that aligned with her values.
Refusing Roles Opposite Salman Khan
Kangana’s selective approach to her career isn’t limited to Akshay Kumar. In an earlier conversation with Siddharth Kannan, she revealed that she had turned down roles in two major Salman Khan films—Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan.
Kangana shared that when Salman first offered her a role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, she didn’t find the role significant enough and chose to decline it. The role eventually went to Kareena Kapoor. Later, when Salman approached her for Sultan, Kangana once again turned down the offer. She remembered Salman’s reaction, saying, “He asked me, ‘What else can I offer you now?'”
A Unique Bond with Salman Khan
Despite declining his films, Kangana and Salman share a respectful and cordial relationship. Kangana mentioned that Salman has been supportive of her work and is particularly excited about her upcoming film Emergency. She shared that a mutual friend encouraged Salman to watch the film, and after seeing it, he praised her efforts. Kangana appreciates Salman’s kindness and the bond they share, which goes beyond professional collaborations.
Kangana’s Dedication to Meaningful Cinema
Kangana’s choices reflect her dedication to roles that resonate with her personal and professional beliefs. She is not swayed by the allure of big names or high-profile projects if they don’t align with her vision of strong, respectable female characters. This approach has led her to refuse offers from not just Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan but also the three Khans and even a dance number in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.
Kangana as Indira Gandhi in Emergency
Kangana is currently focused on her upcoming film Emergency, where she steps into the shoes of India’s former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. In addition to playing the lead role, Kangana has also directed the film, showcasing her multifaceted talent. The film features a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik. Set to release on September 6, Emergency is one of the most awaited films of the year, promising a powerful portrayal of a significant period in Indian history.
Kangana Ranaut continues to carve her own path in Bollywood, making bold choices that reflect her commitment to meaningful cinema. As Emergency nears its release, fans and critics alike are eager to see how Kangana brings one of India’s most iconic political figures to life on screen.
