Indian industrialist and visionary leader Ratan Tata, who passed away recently, has left a legacy that continues to inspire millions. Over the past few years, there has been growing interest in creating a biopic to celebrate his life and achievements. While various names have surfaced, including National Award-winning director Sudha Kongara, it seems that the project has gained new momentum with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) expressing interest in the biopic.
Zee Entertainment MD and CEO Punit Goenka, in a heartfelt statement, mentioned that the entire board is deeply saddened by the loss of Ratan Tata. To honor his remarkable contribution to the nation, Zee Studios is keen on producing a film that would not only serve as a tribute but also inspire generations to follow the path set by Tata. The film is expected to be a positive, inspirational portrayal of his life.
Tata Sons’ Approval Key to Biopic’s Future
While Zee Studios has expressed its desire to make this tribute, the final call rests with Tata Sons. It remains unclear whether the project will take the form of a commercial biopic or a documentary-style presentation. With multiple studios reportedly interested in the concept, this film could highlight unknown stories from Ratan Tata’s extraordinary journey as a leader and philanthropist.
Sudha Kongara’s Biopic Project Delayed
Two years ago, Sudha Kongara, known for her work in the film industry, had been almost confirmed to direct a biopic on Ratan Tata. The project reportedly received approval from Tata Sons, and actors like South star Suriya, Abhishek Bachchan, and R. Madhavan were considered for the role of Ratan Tata. The film was set to begin shooting in late 2023, but since then, there have been no further updates on the project.
Sources suggest that the research for the film had been completed by 2020, and the script was ready to depict many lesser-known aspects of Ratan Tata’s life, but it appears that the project has been put on hold for now.
Boman Irani as Ratan Tata
Interestingly, actor Boman Irani had already portrayed Ratan Tata in the 2019 film PM Narendra Modi, directed by Omung Kumar. In this film, starring Vivek Oberoi as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Boman Irani’s portrayal of the Tata Group’s former chairman was well-received.
As the interest in a full-fledged biopic grows, it remains to be seen whether this cinematic tribute to Ratan Tata will soon become a reality. With Zee Studios and other production houses showing interest, there is hope that a film honoring one of India’s most revered business icons will soon grace the silver screen.
