Kangana Ranaut, known for her bold statements, has once again found herself at the center of controversy. This time, it’s due to her recent post on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), where she made a remark that has triggered heated debates across political circles. While paying tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, Kangana indirectly commented on Mahatma Gandhi, saying he should not be called the “Father of the Nation”. This remark has angered many, especially Congress leaders, leading to demands for legal action against her.
What Did Kangana Post?
On October 2, the actress took to Instagram and shared a picture of Lal Bahadur Shastri, captioning it with, “He is not the father of the country, he is the son of the country. Blessed are these sons of Mother India.” Kangana praised Shastri, calling him the announcer of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” and paid full tribute to him. The timing of the post, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, along with her controversial words, drew strong reactions from political figures.
Congress Leader’s Reaction
Kangana’s post didn’t sit well with Congress leaders. Supriya Shrinet, a senior Congress leader, took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed her displeasure, calling Kangana’s comments a “disrespect” to Mahatma Gandhi. Shrinet further attacked Kangana, calling her a “Godse devotee” and questioned if Prime Minister Narendra Modi would endorse this new form of Gandhi-bashing from a BJP MP.
Demand for Legal Action
Adding fuel to the fire, Congress leader Raj Kumar Verma demanded a case of treason be filed against the actress for her remarks. He accused Kangana of trying to create a divide between the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, calling her comments provocative and harmful to the nation’s history.
BJP Leader Responds
Not just the opposition, but even members from Kangana’s own party distanced themselves from her statements. Manoranjan Kalia, a senior BJP leader from Punjab, criticized the actress, stating that her comments were inappropriate and disrespectful to Gandhi’s legacy.
Kangana’s Upcoming Film “Emergency”
On the professional front, Kangana is preparing for the release of her much-anticipated film Emergency, where she portrays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, however, has faced hurdles as the Censor Board recommended cuts in certain scenes. Kangana has agreed to these changes, and the team is working on implementing them before the scheduled release.
Kangana’s Gandhi Jayanti post has once again proven her penchant for controversy, but this time it has opened up a broader debate on how India remembers its historical figures. While some have supported her stance, many are calling for more responsibility in public statements from a figure of her stature.
