The recently released film ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,’ starring Rajkummar Rao and Trupti Dimri, has sparked controversy over the unauthorized use of content from ‘Stree 2.’ Released on October 11, the movie attempted to use a reference from the popular horror-comedy ‘Stree 2,’ which has not gone well with the original makers.
Directed by Raj Shadilya, the film’s inclusion of ‘Stree 2’ references was done without taking prior permission from the production house Maddock Films, which owns the rights to the franchise. As a result, the director and the team behind the film have come forward with a public apology.
Scene Included to Create Audience Connection
The reference to ‘Stree 2’ in the film was likely an attempt to make a stronger connection with the audience, as ‘Stree 2’ had already garnered a massive fan following. The makers hoped this connection would resonate with viewers. However, the unauthorized use of characters and dialogues from another production has led to legal and ethical concerns.
Maddock Films, the producer of ‘Stree 2,’ did not appreciate the film’s scene involving their franchise. The controversy erupted after fans noticed the similarities, leading to Maddock Films raising the issue.
Raj Shadilya’s Public Apology
Raj Shadilya, the director of ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,’ addressed the issue through his official social media accounts. In his post, he apologized on behalf of himself and the production companies behind the film, including Super Cassettes Industry Limited, Balaji Motion Pictures, and Vakao Films.
In his apology, Raj Shadilya wrote, “I apologize for the unauthorized use of ‘Stree’ characters and dialogues in our film. We deeply regret any loss caused to Maddock Films and their franchise.” He assured that corrective steps were being taken to resolve the issue.
Scene to Be Removed by Mid-October
In an effort to correct the mistake, the filmmakers have promised to remove the scene involving the ‘Stree 2’ reference by October 15, 2024. The director further clarified that ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ is not connected in any way to the ‘Stree’ franchise, its characters, or its intellectual property.
He also mentioned that the scene is being removed immediately to avoid further complications. The team is working to ensure that such errors are not repeated in the future. Raj Shadilya assured the audience that their film has no claims on any characters or elements from ‘Stree’ and that it will stand as a separate entity from Maddock Films’ franchise.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of acquiring the necessary permissions and rights when referencing other intellectual properties in creative works.
