Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, who is busy promoting his upcoming film The Sabarmati Report, has faced backlash over recent comments about India’s independence and the lingering “mentality of slavery.” During a podcast interview with Sushant Sinha, Vikrant’s remark that India’s independence in 1947 was “so-called” sparked a heated reaction on social media. Many fans and viewers questioned his views, expressing disappointment with his stance. In response, Vikrant shared insights into his family’s religious unity, emphasizing his own experience of cultural harmony in India.
A Household of Multiple Faiths
To address the controversy, Vikrant opened up about his own family background. The actor explained that his family, which includes people of various religions, embodies the true spirit of unity in diversity. Vikrant’s father is a Christian, his mother a Sikh, and his brother converted to Islam at 17. Together, they celebrate all religious festivals, regardless of their individual faiths. He shared, “Despite our different beliefs, we all come together for Diwali, Eid, Holi, and even Karva Chauth.”
The actor shared how his brother, a Muslim, joyfully participates in Diwali celebrations and even performs Lakshmi Puja with the family. His mother, though Sikh, observed Karva Chauth for Vikrant and his wife Sheetal, while his father, a devout Christian, also visits temples in addition to attending church.
Celebrating India’s Cultural Harmony
Vikrant highlighted how his family’s inclusive way of celebrating diverse festivals reflects the broader Indian society, where people from different religions live together peacefully. “Just as my family celebrates all religions, India is a nation where people of all faiths coexist with love and respect,” he noted. According to the actor, this unique blend of diversity and mutual respect is what makes India beautiful and resilient.
