When it comes to Bhojpuri cinema, Aamrapali Dubey is one of the most popular and successful actresses. She made her debut in 2014 with the film Nirahua Hindustani, alongside Dinesh Lal Yadav, also known as Nirahua. Within a short span of 10 years, she became a prominent name in the Bhojpuri film industry. However, her journey to success wasn’t without struggles. Recently, Aamrapali opened up about a tough phase in her life where she faced severe anxiety, affecting her health and even her ability to eat.
Aamrapali Dubey Couldn’t Even Eat Properly Due to Severe Anxiety
Aamrapali recently shared her personal experience on her sister Anchal Dubey’s podcast, where she revealed how anxiety took a toll on her both physically and mentally. She spoke about how she developed a fear around her health that made her stop eating and even affected her work on the film sets. The Bhojpuri actress shared, “I started feeling like there was a lump in my throat for 24 hours. Because of this, I couldn’t swallow anything. Even if I managed to eat something in the whole day, it was only two to three spoons of khichdi. Nothing else could go down.”
This severe anxiety condition not only impacted her physically but also led to significant weight loss, which made Aamrapali happy at first. However, she quickly realized the seriousness of the problem.
Health Anxiety and Hypochondria Took Over
Aamrapali explained that her anxiety worsened, leading her to believe she had serious illnesses. She shared how this condition, often referred to as health anxiety or hypochondria, made her obsess over her health. She said, “If I heard that someone got TB, and if I coughed even once, I would start thinking, ‘Do I have TB too?’ I would start panicking that I had all the major diseases in the world. It was a constant battle with my thoughts.”
Aamrapali Felt Weak and Dizzy on the Film Set
Her anxiety affected her day-to-day life on film sets as well. The actress said that while shooting songs or running during climactic scenes, she would feel dizzy and weak due to not eating enough. Aamrapali admitted, “There were times when I would be holding the hero’s hand, running, and in between, I couldn’t eat anything. I would get dizzy while standing on set. It was so difficult to manage.”
She eventually realized that she needed help, and with the support of her family, especially her mother, she sought treatment. Aamrapali’s family took her to several psychologists, and after a proper diagnosis, she began therapy to improve her mental and physical health.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Helped Aamrapali Dubey Overcome Her Struggles
Aamrapali credits cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a major factor in her recovery. She mentioned that regular therapy sessions and professional help made her understand her condition and helped her regain her health. Along with therapy, her family’s support played a huge role in her healing process.
Turning to Spirituality and Visiting Temples Helped Her Find Peace
During her recovery, Aamrapali also found peace in spirituality. She started listening to the Bhagavad Gita daily, which helped calm her mind and gave her strength to move forward. The actress shared that she began visiting temples more often. “I was shooting in Banaras for so many years, and I hadn’t visited Kashi Vishwanath ji. I realized that my connection with spirituality had faded, so I started visiting temples again,” she said.
