Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut is facing frustration and financial setbacks over the repeated postponement of her film ‘Emergency’. Initially slated for release on 6 September, the film has been delayed multiple times, leading to significant backlash and controversy.
The primary reason for the delay is the film’s denial of a certificate from the censor board, combined with strong opposition from various Sikh organizations. These groups argue that the film portrays their community negatively, particularly in its depiction of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. In response, Ranaut has been vocal about her displeasure, claiming that the objections are based on historical inaccuracies and personal biases.
Ranaut Defends Historical Accuracy and Film Integrity
In a recent interview on News18 India Chaupal Program, Kangana Ranaut addressed the criticism head-on. She challenged those defending Bhindranwale, labeling him a terrorist rather than a saint or revolutionary. “Our history has been deliberately hidden from us,” Ranaut said. “The film is ready and has received a certificate from the censor board. Four historians have reviewed it and confirmed its accuracy.”
Ranaut’s comments highlight her belief that the film is grounded in historical fact, despite the objections from certain groups. She argued that Bhindranwale, who has been controversial and divisive, is rightfully depicted as a terrorist in her film. Ranaut added that she has faced threats and harassment from those opposing her portrayal of Bhindranwale, which she believes is unjustified.
Financial Impact and Ongoing Controversy
The repeated delays have not only sparked controversy but also resulted in significant financial loss for the actress. Ranaut expressed her frustration, stating that the film was canceled just four days before its intended release, leading to substantial economic damage.
“This is very shameful for me,” Ranaut lamented. “We are being unfairly targeted for showing Bhindranwale as he was. I never expected such strong objections. The film’s postponement has caused real financial harm and has been a blow to our production efforts.”
As the debate continues, the future of ‘Emergency’ remains uncertain. Ranaut’s strong stance reflects her commitment to her film and its portrayal of controversial historical figures. The ongoing discussion underscores the broader challenges faced by filmmakers dealing with sensitive historical and political topics.
