Jani Master, a popular Telugu choreographer known for his work in hit songs like ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ from the upcoming film Stree 2, is facing grave allegations of sexual misconduct. On September 18, the Cyberabad Narsingi police registered a case against him under the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), making his situation more precarious. This development follows a complaint from a 21-year-old woman who has accused Jani Master of sexually exploiting her for six years, starting when she was a minor.
Allegations of Long-Term Exploitation
The complainant, a junior choreographer who worked with Jani Master, has alleged that the abuse began when she was a minor. The woman claims that the choreographer sexually assaulted her during outdoor shoots and at his residence in various cities over the years. With these revelations, the police have filed charges against Jani under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376(2) (punishment for rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt). However, the recent involvement of the POCSO Act has escalated the case, as it is a non-bailable offence and could soon lead to his arrest.
The Victim’s Battle for Justice
The victim has not only approached the police but also sought help from the Telangana State Women’s Commission. She has submitted a 40-page detailed report to the commission, documenting her traumatic experience along with supporting evidence. The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, Nerella Sharada, confirmed that police protection has been provided to the victim and promised a thorough investigation into the matter.
Sharada further emphasized the importance of enforcing the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act in workplaces, particularly in the film industry. “We want strict action, and we will monitor such cases at a high level,” she said, indicating the commission’s resolve to prevent such incidents in the future.
Silence From Jani Master and Fallout
Meanwhile, Jani Master has not yet commented on the allegations. He has reportedly stepped back from his current film projects and other commitments, including his involvement with the Jana Sena Party, led by actor and politician Pawan Kalyan, Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister. Sources indicate that Jani Master may have been asked to resign from the party until the legal process plays out.
Legal and Industry Repercussions
The application of the POCSO Act in this case is a significant turn of events, as it underscores the seriousness of the charges. If convicted, Jani Master could face severe penalties, including jail time. The film industry has been rocked by the news, and this case might prompt further discussions about implementing stricter regulations and oversight to prevent sexual harassment at workplaces, especially in the entertainment sector.
The case is developing, and while the choreographer remains silent, the legal and social consequences of the allegations are becoming increasingly apparent.
