Popular Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan has recently been in the spotlight after making emotional public apologies to various Punjabi organizations. During an interview with an American Punjabi channel, the veteran singer expressed deep regret, folding his hands and holding his ears in apology. He said that it was never his intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments or offend any community. If his words caused pain, he sincerely apologizes for the same.
Maan has been embroiled in a few controversies in recent years, which has led him to make this public statement. Two incidents, in particular, have caused an uproar, resulting in protests and backlash against the singer.
Protests Over Remarks About Protesters and Mother Tongue
One of the major controversies arose during Gurdas Maan’s foreign tour when he allegedly used inappropriate language to address some youth who were protesting against his show. This angered many in the Punjabi community, as the protesters were upset with his actions during the event.
In a separate incident, Maan found himself in trouble after his statement on the mother tongue. He said that Hindi was his first mother tongue, followed by Punjabi. This statement didn’t sit well with many Punjabi language supporters, sparking further criticism against the singer.
Dera Baba Murad Shah Speech Sparks Major Controversy
However, the biggest controversy involving Gurdas Maan dates back to 2021. While speaking at the Dera Baba Murad Shah Mela in Nakodar, he made a comment stating that Laddi Sai, associated with the Dargah at the site, was a descendant of Guru Amar Das Ji, the third Sikh Guru. This statement infuriated Sikh organizations, who felt it was historically inaccurate and disrespectful to the faith.
As a result, an FIR was filed against Maan, and Sikh groups organized protests demanding his arrest. Although Maan received relief from the court in this matter, the issue didn’t die down. To add to the controversy, Maan released a song addressing these incidents, which only further fueled public outrage. Many people lashed out at the singer, accusing him of being disrespectful.
Gurdas Maan’s Emotional Apology and Reflections
Now, in his recent interview, Gurdas Maan has apologized for all the pain caused by his statements. In a heartfelt message, he said, “I hold my ears and apologize to anyone hurt by my words. My intention was never to hurt anyone, especially not in the song I dedicated to Sikhism. I thought Punjabis, known for their big hearts, would forgive me, but I was mistaken.”
He also shared his deep love for the Punjabi language, emphasizing, “Whatever I have achieved is because of my mother tongue, Punjabi. It has given me everything. I have never written anything with ill intent, and I never will.”
Maan Stands Firm Against Personal Attacks
Despite his apology, Gurdas Maan expressed sadness over the personal attacks directed toward him and his family. He highlighted that while everyone makes mistakes, it doesn’t justify attacking someone’s mother. “If someone calls my mother a traitor, how can I stay silent? My conscience would not allow it,” he said, referencing the hurtful comments made during the backlash.
Gurdas Maan’s apology marks his attempt to reconcile with the community, acknowledging the mistakes made while hoping for forgiveness from those he unintentionally hurt.
