While many star kids from Bollywood families often follow in their parents’ footsteps to enter the film industry, Navya Naveli Nanda, Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter, has taken a different route. Instead of pursuing a career in acting, Navya has decided to focus on academics and has secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad.
A New Chapter at IIM Ahmedabad
Navya, who has always been in the spotlight due to her famous lineage, surprised everyone when she announced her admission to IIM Ahmedabad. The news came to light through her social media post, where she shared her excitement about joining the institute’s two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), commonly referred to as an MBA. Navya’s post, which included pictures of herself on the IIM Ahmedabad campus, was captioned, “Dreams come true, this is my home for the next 2 years with good people and great faculty, BPGP MBA 2026.”
Dressed in a simple black and white suit, Navya looked elated as she stood in front of the iconic IIM Ahmedabad signboard. The post also featured glimpses of the campus and her new friends, highlighting the beginning of an exciting academic journey.
Support from Family and Teachers
Navya’s mother, Shweta Bachchan, expressed her pride in her daughter’s achievement. Commenting on Navya’s post, Shweta wrote, “You have made me feel very proud.” Navya also took a moment to thank her teachers, especially mentioning her mentor, Prasad Sir, who helped her prepare for the rigorous Common Admission Test (CAT). In her Instagram story, Navya shared a picture from her coaching centre where she celebrated her admission by cutting a cake, acknowledging the support she received during her preparation.
Staying Away from the Silver Screen
Navya has made it clear on several occasions that she has no intention of entering the film industry, despite coming from a family deeply rooted in Bollywood. Instead, she has shown a strong interest in business and entrepreneurship. This decision aligns with her background as she comes from a family with a significant business presence. In an interview, Navya mentioned that she is more inclined towards continuing the family’s business legacy rather than stepping into the world of acting.
Beyond Academics: A Voice for Change
Although she has chosen a path far from the glitz and glamour of Bollywood, Navya is not entirely away from the public eye. She has been quite active in other areas, particularly in social issues. Navya hosts a podcast titled “What the Hell Navya,” where she discusses various topics related to women and society. The podcast, which she co-hosts with her grandmother Jaya Bachchan and mother Shweta Bachchan, has garnered attention for its candid discussions on women’s issues.
Navya’s choice to focus on education and business, coupled with her active involvement in social causes, sets her apart from the typical image of a star kid. By pursuing an MBA at one of India’s top management institutes, she is paving the way for a career that is both meaningful and impactful.
