A video of people singing bhajan-kirtan and chanting religious slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” in the Mumbai Metro has sparked a debate, especially after Pooja Bhatt, Bollywood actress and filmmaker, expressed her anger over the incident. The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a group of passengers chanting and singing religious songs during Navratri.
Pooja Bhatt took to her social media platform to share her concerns about the incident. The actress criticized the act of performing religious activities in public spaces, asking, “How can this be allowed in a public place?” She pointed out that public places should not be misused for any kind of activity—be it “Hindutva pop, Christmas carols, or even Bollywood songs.”
Bhatt Questions Law and Order
In another post, Pooja Bhatt raised concerns about the general state of law and order in the city. She expressed frustration over the lack of regulations in public spaces, saying, “If basic rules cannot be followed, there is no hope for maintaining law and order.” She also mentioned other issues like illegal hoardings by political parties and fireworks being burst on roads, adding to her concerns about public safety and order.
Trolls React to Pooja Bhatt’s Comments
Soon after sharing her opinion, Pooja Bhatt became the target of social media trolls. Many criticized her stance, accusing her of singling out Hindu religious practices. One user responded, “You can’t erase our culture. We will celebrate our festivals as we always have.” Another user questioned why Bhatt had not spoken out against other religious practices like street prayers during Eid, accusing her of selective outrage.

Despite the backlash, Bhatt’s comments have stirred a discussion on the use of public spaces for religious activities, highlighting the balance between religious expression and public order in urban environments.
