Randeep Hooda Opens Up About His Unique Acting Choices and Why He Prefers Thoughtful Roles Over Commercial Masala Films
Randeep Hooda, known for his powerful performances and offbeat film choices, has once again stirred conversation with a statement about his acting style. At a recent event, the versatile actor compared himself to Bollywood’s popular stars, Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor, explaining why he chooses different types of films and doesn’t follow mainstream trends.
Randeep’s Distinct Approach to Acting
During the India Today Mind Rocks Youth Summit in Bengaluru, Randeep Hooda shared insights into his journey in Bollywood and why he doesn’t focus on being part of typical commercial films. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Randeep enjoys taking up challenging roles that allow him to explore new dimensions of acting.
He admitted, “I never wanted to work in masala films where I didn’t have to use my brain. I enjoy entertainment, but I believe that even in entertainment, there should be room for thinking. That’s why I pick roles that make me think.”
“Hrithik and Shahid Dance, I Act”
Randeep further elaborated on why he doesn’t compete with actors known for their dancing skills. He acknowledged that Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff are excellent dancers but pointed out that his strength lies in his acting abilities. “I wasn’t good at dancing, so I focused on acting. Hrithik, Shahid, and Tiger are great at what they do, but I believe that what I do on screen is something they can’t. Each of us has our unique style,” he remarked.
This statement highlights his belief that every actor has a distinct skill set, and there should be no comparison between talents that cater to different aspects of cinema.
A Career Defined by Selective Choices
Randeep Hooda’s filmography is not extensive, but it is impactful. Since his debut in Monsoon Wedding in 2001, he has only acted in 34 films. This selective approach is intentional, as he revealed that he prefers to wait for roles that resonate with him, rather than signing up for films just for the sake of being on screen.
He candidly shared, “In my 24-year career, I haven’t been on a film set for 11 years. This is because I prefer to wait for the right project, or I’m preparing for a role that truly challenges me.”
Transformation Acting: Randeep’s True Passion
Hooda has earned a reputation for his method of acting and transformational roles. When asked why he doesn’t take up more mainstream roles, he explained his passion for fully immersing himself in a character. He said, “I’ve played many police officers on screen, but none of them have been the stereotypical cop in uniform. I believe in playing characters that feel real and bring change within the actor and the audience.”
When the event host requested him to show some dance moves, Hooda politely declined, reiterating that dancing is not his strength. Instead, he expressed his deep interest in roles that allow him to transform and get into the skin of a character.
Future Prospects and Recent Projects
Randeep Hooda’s most recent film was Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, but unfortunately, the film did not perform well at the box office. Despite this setback, the actor remains committed to doing fewer but meaningful projects that reflect his unique vision for cinema. He has not announced any upcoming films yet, but fans can expect his future work to continue showcasing his exceptional acting prowess.
Hooda’s career may not be as prolific in terms of numbers, but his dedication to quality storytelling and complex characters sets him apart from many of his contemporaries. Fans of the actor are always eager to see what he’ll take on next, as he consistently brings depth and authenticity to his roles.
