Sharvari Wagh, who made her Bollywood debut with Bunty Aur Babli 2, is once again in the spotlight with her recent film Veda. While the film didn’t make a significant impact at the box office, Sharvari’s journey in the industry has been anything but ordinary. Before stepping into the limelight as an actress, Sharvari had her roots firmly planted behind the scenes, working as an assistant director.
In a recent interview with Galata Plus, Sharvari revealed an interesting tidbit about her early days in the film industry. At just 17 years old, she auditioned for a role in Luv Ranjan’s 2015 film Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, which starred Kartik Aaryan. However, despite her promising audition, she wasn’t cast in the film. The reason? Luv Ranjan felt that Sharvari was too young for the role, which involved romantic scenes.
From Audition to Assistant Director
Sharvari shared that although Luv Ranjan liked her audition, he decided she wasn’t quite the right fit for the role due to her age. But this didn’t deter Sharvari. Instead, she saw an opportunity to learn and grow in the industry. She asked Luv Ranjan if she could assist in any other way, leading to her first stint as an assistant director (AD).
“I had never been on a film set before,” Sharvari recalled. “When Luv sir said I wasn’t right for the role, I asked him if I could help in any other way, and he said yes.” Initially hired as a director’s assistant, Sharvari quickly immersed herself in the filmmaking process, learning the ropes from scheduling to music coordination.
Sharvari’s Experience as a Clap AD
One of the most valuable experiences for Sharvari during this time was working as a clap AD. She expressed how this role allowed her to be the bridge between the director and the actors, providing her with an up-close understanding of filmmaking. “The job of a clap AD is the best for an aspiring actor,” Sharvari explained. “You get to hear all the conversations between the director and the actor, and you learn so much from that interaction.”
Sharvari’s experience as a clap AD wasn’t limited to Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. She also worked in the same role on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic Bajirao Mastani in 2015. Despite the challenges, Sharvari cherished these experiences, which further fueled her passion for cinema.
A Pathway to Stardom
After working as an assistant director on multiple projects, including Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) and The Forgotten Army (2020), Sharvari finally made her acting debut with Bunty Aur Babli 2. Although the film didn’t make waves at the box office, it marked the beginning of her journey as an actress.
This year, Sharvari starred in the horror-comedy Munjya, which was released in June and became a major hit. Her performance was widely appreciated, solidifying her status as one of Bollywood’s rising stars. Following this, she appeared in Maharaja, the debut film of Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan. Looking ahead, Sharvari is set to feature in YRF Spy Universe’s upcoming film Alpha.
Sharvari Wagh’s journey from a hopeful 17-year-old auditioning for a film role to becoming a successful actress is a testament to her determination and passion for the craft. As she continues to make her mark in the industry, fans eagerly await her next performance.
