Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar recently shared her thoughts on the anxieties she faced before marrying political activist Fahad Ahmed in 2023. While the couple’s relationship became a hot topic, Swara candidly spoke about her inner concerns regarding her marriage and the Bollywood world.
How Swara Met Fahad Ahmed
Swara Bhaskar and Fahad Ahmed first crossed paths during the CAA-NRC protests in 2019. What began as a friendship soon blossomed into love. Swara, known for her outspoken nature, took time to reflect on their future, even contemplating waiting for Fahad to “settle down” before taking the next step. In a recent interview on Amrita Rao and RJ Anmol’s YouTube show Couple of Things, Swara opened up about these early moments of their relationship.
Swara’s Unusual Fear About Bollywood
One of the most surprising revelations Swara shared was her fear of being sidelined by Bollywood after marrying Fahad. She confessed that she was worried about not being invited to industry parties anymore. “I always wondered what my parents would think, what my brother would say, and even how my friends would react,” she said. For someone who is known for speaking her mind and not caring much about others’ opinions, these thoughts were unusual for Swara. “I don’t usually filter what I say or think about people’s reactions, but this time I found myself overthinking,” she added.
A 10-Day Wedding Celebration
Swara and Fahad’s wedding wasn’t just a low-key affair. The couple celebrated their union in grand style at Swara’s grandparents’ house, complete with music, food, and festivities. The 10-day long celebration, filled with traditional rituals like haldi and sangeet, felt like a cultural festival to Swara. The actress emphasized how special it was to celebrate such a significant moment with her loved ones in an intimate, homely environment.
A Heartfelt Conversation with Her Uncle
Swara also shared an emotional moment she had with her uncle, an Englishman, during a phone conversation with Fahad. He knew about their religious differences but wasn’t aware of the class differences in India. At one point, he asked Swara a profound question: if she could find a man who met all her conditions but wasn’t Fahad, would she be interested? Swara’s response was immediate and honest – “No, but he wouldn’t be Fahad.” This simple realization put all her doubts to rest and strengthened her resolve to marry the man she loved.
Married Under the Special Marriage Act
Swara Bhaskar and Fahad Ahmed tied the knot in February 2023 under the Special Marriage Act, which allows interfaith couples to marry legally in India. A month later, the couple hosted a grand wedding ceremony, complete with all the traditional rituals. The celebrations didn’t stop there, as Swara announced in June of the same year that she was expecting her first child. In September 2023, the couple welcomed their daughter, whom they named Rabia.
