Many stars from the South film industry, like Vijay Sethupathi, Kamal Haasan, and Nagarjuna, have worked in Bollywood, but Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas has a different view. Even though he has gained fame with his superhero movie Minnal Murali, Tovino doesn’t feel the need to enter Bollywood.
Tovino Thomas Was Offered a Role in Lal Singh Chaddha
In an interview, Tovino revealed that he was offered a role in Aamir Khan’s movie Lal Singh Chaddha. This role was later played by Naga Chaitanya. Tovino shared that he couldn’t take up the offer due to his work commitments. However, he also explained that his reason for not joining Bollywood is not just about schedules.
Why Tovino Doesn’t Want to Work in Bollywood
Tovino Thomas believes that every film industry already has many talented actors. He said that he doesn’t want to come to Bollywood as an outsider and take away opportunities from those who belong there. He is happy to work in other industries if the character he plays is connected to his roots, like being a Malayali character living in Mumbai or Hyderabad.
He said, “I don’t see any point in working in Bollywood unless the character is connected to my culture.”
Tovino’s Love for Cinema Across Languages
Though Tovino prefers to stay in Malayalam cinema, he has a deep love for movies from all over the world. He said he enjoys watching films in different languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Spanish, Japanese, and more.
Tovino’s Upcoming Film ARM
Currently, Tovino is gearing up for the release of his new film ARM, which will hit theatres on 12 September. This film is a pan-India release and will be available in multiple languages. Tovino, who started his career with supporting roles, is now one of the most recognized faces in Indian cinema.
