The Netflix web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ is facing a lot of controversy. A complaint has been filed against 11 people, including the director Anubhav Sinha, producers, and actors like Dia Mirza and Pankaj Kapur. This complaint was filed in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
Why the Controversy?
The controversy started because the series used Hindu names like Bhola and Shankar for the hijackers, while they were Muslims. Many people felt that this was wrong and misleading. To address the growing anger, the makers have decided to add the real names of the terrorists in the show’s disclaimer, along with the code names.
Complaint Filed in Muzaffarpur Court
Sudhir Kumar Ojha, a lawyer from Muzaffarpur, filed the complaint against the show’s director Anubhav Sinha, producers Sanjay Raut, Sarita Patil, Diksha Raut, assistant producer Rohit Sharma, and actors Naseeruddin Shah, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur, and Arvind Swami. The complaint alleges that the web series has hidden the truth and changed the real events of the 1999 Air India flight hijacking.
Allegations of Hiding the Truth
According to the complaint, the makers of the web series have tried to twist the facts and have been too soft on the terrorists. The lawyer has claimed that this can harm the country’s image and unity. The complaint also says that the series wrongly portrays the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and tries to support separatists.
