Rajesh Puri, the beloved Munim Ji of ‘Buniyaad’, recently faced a harrowing experience when he narrowly escaped a kidnapping plot in Delhi. Known for his iconic roles in TV serials like Buniyaad and popular films such as Hum Log, Dil, and Dilwale, Rajesh was shocked when he discovered that an innocent invitation to an award function was part of a sinister kidnapping scheme.
Despite the danger, Rajesh Puri has decided not to file a complaint with the police. His reasons stem from fear of further repercussions, but his story serves as a reminder of how such incidents can happen even to well-known personalities.
An Innocent Invitation Turns Dangerous
It all started in early September when Rajesh Puri received a call from a man named Shivam. He invited Rajesh to be the chief guest at a government award event in Delhi, scheduled for 8th September. The offer seemed legitimate, and Rajesh was offered a payment of Rs 35,000 to attend, along with a return ticket for the following day, 9th September.
Rajesh, who was occupied with Ganpati Puja at the time, did not think much about the invitation. After all, such events are common in the entertainment industry, and he had attended many similar award functions in the past. Unfortunately, this time, things were not as they seemed.
Suspicion Arises During the Journey
Upon arriving in Delhi, Rajesh was greeted and escorted to a taxi, which seemed like normal hospitality. However, after an hour of travel, the taxi was stopped and his luggage was transferred to a new car. This is when Rajesh began to sense something was wrong. The new car had no license plate, and the driver was wearing a mask, raising red flags for the actor. Feeling uneasy, Rajesh attempted to intimidate his companions by mentioning his supposed “Dabangg” connections in Delhi.
The car then stopped at a dhaba, 12 km away from Meerut, for food. It was during this stop that Rajesh uncovered the truth. There was no award function—he was being kidnapped. In a conversation, Rajesh learned that the men planned to kidnap him for ransom. The amount demanded was no small sum—Rs 1-2 crore.
A Chilling Plan for Ransom
Rajesh Puri was taken aback when he learned the full extent of the kidnapping plot. The kidnappers were supposedly hired by someone who claimed that Rajesh owed him Rs 35 lakh. The initial plan was to abduct him and demand a ransom of Rs 1-2 crore. Armed men were chasing the car, and Rajesh was being taken to a remote location where they planned to hold him captive.
However, during the kidnapping attempt, it seems that the kidnappers realized the person who hired them had lied. Rajesh didn’t owe anyone any money, and the plot began to unravel. Sensing the mistake, the kidnappers dropped Rajesh at the border. From there, his brother-in-law came to his rescue and picked him up.
Why Rajesh Puri Won’t Take Legal Action
Despite the terrifying ordeal, Rajesh Puri has decided not to file a police complaint. In an interview with ETimes TV, Rajesh explained that his lawyers have advised him against taking any legal action. The reason? Filing a complaint might provoke the kidnappers, putting Rajesh in further danger. Fear for his safety is the primary reason the actor has chosen to remain silent on this matter.
“My lawyers suggested it’s safer to stay away from legal action, as it may infuriate the kidnappers,” Rajesh shared during the interview. It is a difficult situation for the actor, who has survived a frightening experience but now must deal with the aftermath quietly.
A Lesson for All
Rajesh Puri’s story serves as a reminder that no one is immune to danger, even celebrities. What started as an innocent invitation to an award function quickly turned into a life-threatening situation. The incident sheds light on how easily such crimes can occur and why it’s important to stay alert in unfamiliar situations.
