The actor shared that he was initially chosen for a role in the hit web series Sacred Games but was unexpectedly dropped at the last moment.
“I Was Dropped After Costume Measurements,” Says Vijay
In a recent interview with Indian Express, Vijay Verma spoke about his early struggles in the film industry. He revealed that he had given numerous auditions in the hopes of landing a breakthrough role. He shared that after reaching the final rounds in many auditions, he was sometimes removed at the last minute.
Vijay disclosed, “I was finalized for Sacred Games, and even gave my measurements for the costume, but suddenly I was dropped from the project.” This setback came at a tough time in his career when he was looking for opportunities to establish himself in the industry.
Career Took Off After Gully Boy
Despite the setback, Vijay remained hopeful and continued to audition for various roles. It wasn’t until ‘Gully Boy’, where he played a pivotal role, that his career truly started to take off. He said, “After Gully Boy, I started getting work, but I was so hungry for roles that I took on a lot of projects.” His performance in Gully Boy helped him get more recognition, but the industry started offering him primarily negative roles.
Stereotyped in Negative Roles
Vijay revealed that after Gully Boy, many filmmakers began to typecast him in negative roles. However, the turning point in his career came when he portrayed the role of an abusive husband in the hit movie Darlings. His performance was widely appreciated, and it opened up new opportunities for him.
He then took on more diverse roles, such as a serial killer in Daad and a police inspector in Jaane Jaan, showing his range as an actor. Today, Vijay Verma is known for his powerful performances, but his journey has not been without its struggles and challenges.
