Jaya Bachchan, one of Bollywood’s most respected actresses, often finds herself at odds with the paparazzi. Over the years, her sharp reactions and scolding of photographers have become well-known. But what is the reason behind her frustration with the cameras constantly following her? Recently, celebrity photographer Manav Manglani shed some light on the issue in an interview with Alina Dissects, offering an interesting perspective on Jaya Bachchan’s behavior towards the media.
The Changing Media Landscape Baffles Jaya Bachchan
Manav explained that Jaya Bachchan comes from an era when media coverage was far more limited. Back in her prime, only a handful of journalists and photographers would be present at events. Fast forward to today, and the media landscape has completely changed. With the explosion of digital platforms and social media, celebrities are constantly followed by a sea of cameras, something Jaya Bachchan isn’t used to.
Manav stated, “She is not used to so much media. In her days, there were barely a few people doing all this, and that too very slowly. Now, the media has grown massively.”
Jaya Bachchan’s ‘Love-Hate’ Relationship with the Cameras
Interestingly, Jaya Bachchan doesn’t mind being clicked during official events like press conferences or film premieres. It’s the unsolicited attention during her private moments, like when she is out with family, that irritates her. Manav added, “She gets shocked when the paparazzi follow her even when she is out for something as simple as dinner.”
Her Sense of Humor with the Paparazzi
Despite her frustration, Jaya Bachchan also has a lighter side when interacting with photographers. Manav recalled that she sometimes jokes with them, suggesting the right angles to take her pictures from. He explained, “She has her own funny jokes, telling the paps, ‘Why are you taking the photo from this angle? Take it from this side instead.’ She has her own way of dealing with things.”
Jaya Bachchan’s Stand on Privacy
In an earlier episode of the podcast ‘What the Hell Navya’, Jaya Bachchan made her views on the paparazzi culture very clear. She expressed her dislike for people who intrude on her personal life and profit from it. She said, “I hate people who interfere in your private life. They make a living by selling those things, and I despise it.” This is a sentiment she has carried for many years, and it reflects in her interactions with the media.
While Jaya Bachchan doesn’t mind criticism of her acting or professional life, she draws a firm line when it comes to her personal space.
