This wealth came to her after the death of her husband, Cyrus Mistry, in a tragic car accident in 2022. Cyrus Mistry served as chairman of Tata Sons from 2012 to 2016 and retained a significant stake in the company even after his removal from the position.
Inherited Wealth from Husband Cyrus Mistry
Rohika Mistry married Cyrus Mistry in 1992, coming from a prominent family. Her grandfather, M. C. Chagla, was a notable jurist, and her father, Iqbal Chagla, is a senior advocate. The wealth Rohika now holds stems from the 18.4% stake in Tata Sons that her husband, Cyrus Mistry, held. Despite his removal from the company, this stake remained with the Mistry family and has contributed to Rohiqa’s significant financial standing.
The Dispute Between Ratan Tata and Cyrus Mistry
The relationship between the Tata family and Cyrus Mistry was not always smooth. Cyrus was appointed chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, but his leadership vision differed from that of Ratan Tata. Cyrus wanted to modernize the group and bring in changes to address new challenges, while Ratan Tata preferred to uphold traditional values. This clash of ideas ultimately led to Cyrus Mistry being removed as chairman in 2016. Although this caused a rift between the two families, the Mistry family retained their stake in the company.
