Cricket is full of records—some are celebrated, while others are not so welcome. One of the records that no bowler wants is to have bowled the most expensive spell in an ODI match. Here, we look at five Indian bowlers who, unfortunately, gave away the most runs in an ODI.
1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 106 Runs
Bhuvneshwar Kumar holds the record for conceding the most runs in an ODI by an Indian bowler. In a match against South Africa in 2015, Bhuvi gave away 106 runs in his 10 overs. South Africa went on to score a massive 438 runs in that game.
2. R Vinay Kumar – 102 Runs
In 2013, R Vinay Kumar conceded 102 runs in just 9 overs during a match against Australia in Bengaluru. Despite this, Rohit Sharma’s double century, where he scored 209 runs, was a highlight for India in the same game.
3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 92 Runs
Bhuvneshwar Kumar appears on this list again. In 2017, during a match against New Zealand in Kanpur, he gave away 92 runs in his 10 overs. However, India managed to win the match despite his expensive spell.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal – 89 Runs
In the 2020 ODI against Australia in Sydney, Yuzvendra Chahal, India’s leg-spinner, conceded 89 runs in his 10 overs. Steve Smith’s quick 105 runs from 66 balls played a big part in Australia’s win by 66 runs.
5. Zaheer Khan – 88 Runs
Zaheer Khan, one of India’s top fast bowlers, conceded 88 runs in 10 overs against Sri Lanka in 2009. Despite his expensive spell, India scored 414 runs, and Sri Lanka came close with 411 runs, making it a thrilling match.
These bowlers, known for their skill, had an off day on these occasions. These records are part of cricket’s unpredictable nature, where anything can happen on the field.
