Former Indian cricketer and Rajya Sabha member from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Harbhajan Singh, has expressed his happiness after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court. Sharing his thoughts on social media, Harbhajan Singh mentioned, “I am very happy that my beloved leader Arvind Kejriwal ji got bail from the Supreme Court.” He further added that Kejriwal’s release would energize the party workers, especially ahead of the upcoming Haryana elections.
Kejriwal’s Bail Conditions and Court Directives
The Supreme Court, represented by Justices Suryakant and Ujjwal Bhuiyan, granted bail to Kejriwal on a bond of Rs 10 lakh and two sureties. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the liquor policy case. The court granted him interim bail on May 10, and after surrendering on June 2, he remained in jail until now.
However, the bail came with specific conditions. The Supreme Court instructed that Kejriwal must not make any public comments regarding the ongoing case and noted that all the rules applicable in the ED case would apply to this case as well. Furthermore, the court also restricted Kejriwal from visiting his office or the Delhi Secretariat without the Lieutenant Governor’s permission, except for urgent matters.
Justice Bhuiyan’s Observations on the Arrest
Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan raised concerns about the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest by the CBI, hinting that the purpose behind the arrest was to prevent Kejriwal from obtaining bail in the ED case. Despite this, both Justices Bhuiyan and Suryakant agreed that there is no immediate possibility of the trial concluding soon, and hence, the bail was justified.
This decision has sparked excitement among AAP supporters, as Kejriwal’s return is seen as a significant boost to the party’s morale ahead of crucial elections.
