Team India is All Set for the First Test Against Bangladesh in Chennai, But Akshar Patel Might Not Be a Part of the Playing XI. Here’s Why.
The Indian cricket team is gearing up for the Test series against Bangladesh, starting on 19th September. Under the guidance of coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma, Team India is training hard in Chennai. However, there is a buzz surrounding a surprising decision – Akshar Patel, who has been in excellent form recently, might not be included in the playing XI for the first Test.
Why Akshar Patel Might Be Left Out of the First Test
As per reports from PTI, the team management is considering going with a different strategy for the Chennai Test. The plan is to include three spinners in the line-up, but Akshar Patel may not be one of them. Instead, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to take the lead as the spin trio.
While Akshar’s performance has been outstanding lately, particularly in the Duleep Trophy where he scored 86 and 28 runs for India D, he is reportedly not fitting into the specific strategy of the team for this Test. His exclusion could be a tough call as Akshar also strengthens the lower batting order and has a great Test record with 646 runs at an average of 35, alongside 55 wickets at an impressive bowling average of 19.34.
The Spin Trio: Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav
If the reports are to be believed, Kuldeep Yadav is being favored over Akshar Patel. Kuldeep has been in good form and has taken 53 wickets in just 12 Test matches. In addition to his bowling, Kuldeep has also worked on his batting in recent games, making him a well-rounded option for the team.
With Ashwin and Jadeja almost certain to feature in the playing XI, Kuldeep is being seen as the third spinner for the Chennai Test. This means Akshar might have to sit out despite his strong performances.
Bowling Line-up for the First Test
Apart from the spin department, India’s fast bowling attack will likely feature Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. As for the wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant is expected to take that role.
