The Pakistan cricket team is currently facing tough times. After a disappointing home defeat against Bangladesh, losing the series 0-2, there are now concerns that the upcoming Test series against England could be moved outside of Pakistan.
Why the Series Might Be Shifted?
Pakistan is set to host England for a three-match Test series in October. However, reports from Pakistani media suggest that the series might not happen in Pakistan. The reason? Some of the stadiums in Pakistan are not ready for the matches.
Sports journalist Saj Sadiq recently tweeted that the TV rights for the series are not being sold yet. He also shared that the series may have to take place outside Pakistan due to delays in getting the stadiums ready. The first two Tests are planned to be held in Multan and Karachi, while the final one is scheduled for Rawalpindi.
Stadium Work Delays
In the past, Pakistan also had to move some of its home Test matches because of stadium issues. For example, both of their recent Test matches against Bangladesh were played in Rawalpindi because another stadium was under renovation. That stadium is being prepared for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Pakistan’s Home Struggles
Interestingly, Pakistan’s recent Test performances at home haven’t been great. In the last 10 home matches, Pakistan hasn’t won a single one. This includes the Test series losses to both England and Bangladesh. Because of these losses, Pakistan is no longer in the race for the World Test Championship final.
Another challenge for Pakistan is the Champions Cup, an ODI tournament happening before the Test series against England. Top Pakistani players will be busy with the Champions Cup, which raises concerns about how well the team can prepare for the Test series.
This situation is putting more pressure on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to handle things smoothly and get the stadiums ready in time.
