In a surprising turn of events, left-handed opener Pratham Singh took center stage for India A in the Duleep Trophy, replacing Shubman Gill and making an instant impact. The 32-year-old Delhi cricketer showcased his talent with a brilliant century against India D, adding a key performance to his cricket journey.
A Century That Turned the Match
On the third day of the match, Pratham Singh played a crucial knock, scoring 122 runs off 189 balls, featuring 12 boundaries and a six. His century came spectacularly when he hit a six off fast bowler Vidwath Kaverappa, followed by two consecutive fours. This remarkable performance helped India A extend their lead and dominate the game. Pratham’s knock, along with Mayank Agarwal and Tilak Verma’s contributions, pushed India A to 260/2 by lunch, securing a lead of 367 runs. Earlier, India A bowled out India D for just 183 after posting 290 in their first innings.
From Engineering and Business School to IPL and Beyond
Pratham Singh’s journey to cricket success hasn’t been a straightforward one. Initially pursuing an engineering degree, he also made it into one of India’s top business schools, ISB (Indian School of Business). However, his passion for cricket drew him away from academics and into professional cricket. After years of hard work, he earned a place in the Indian Premier League (IPL), first being picked by Gujarat Lions, though he didn’t get a chance to play.
Pratham’s breakthrough finally came in the 2022 IPL season when Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him in the mega auction. He had already proven himself in the domestic Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, representing Railways and continuing to be a reliable performer in the cricketing circuit.
Today, Pratham Singh’s century is another testament to his determination and persistence in pursuing his dream of making it big in Indian cricket.
