Simran Sharma, a para-athlete from Uttar Pradesh, has brought pride to India by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics on September 7 in the women’s 200m T12 race. Her stunning performance, clocking in at 24.75 seconds, earned her the 28th medal for India in the competition. This race was not only a podium finish but also Simran’s personal best.
Simran’s journey to this point has been full of challenges. Born prematurely at 6.5 months in 1999, in Ghaziabad, she lost her eyesight due to prolonged time in an incubator. Walking was also difficult for her, and as a result, she faced ridicule from neighbors during her childhood. However, she did not let these obstacles stop her. Simran continued with her education and pushed herself beyond her physical limitations.
It was during her time at Rukmani Modi Mahila Inter College in Modinagar that Simran’s life changed. While dealing with her struggles, she discovered a passion for athletics. Participating in inter-college competitions sparked her interest in professional sports, giving her the push she needed to pursue her dreams.
