Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has filed a legal case against YouTuber Mrinmay Das for cyberbullying and defamation. The issue arose after a video posted by the YouTuber targeted Ganguly in connection with a controversial case in Kolkata, where a female doctor was tragically raped and murdered. Ganguly had commented on the incident, but later clarified that his remarks were misinterpreted. Despite his clarification, the YouTuber’s video included abusive language and derogatory statements, which Ganguly found harmful to his reputation.

Ganguly’s Secretary Filed the Complaint via Email

The complaint was officially lodged by Tania Bhattacharya, Ganguly’s secretary, through an email to the Kolkata Police’s cyber crime wing. In the email, Bhattacharya highlighted that the video used “abusive language” and made defamatory comments targeting Ganguly. She further emphasized that the content not only attacked the former cricketer personally but also violated the dignity every individual deserves.

Request for Legal Action Against the YouTuber

In the email, Bhattacharya requested the police to take “appropriate legal action” against the YouTuber. The appeal to the cyber crime department sought prompt intervention to resolve the issue, ensuring that the necessary steps are taken to uphold Ganguly’s reputation and deliver justice.

The case is currently under investigation by the Kolkata Police, with Ganguly seeking legal recourse for what he describes as unwarranted and damaging content against him.
