Virat Kohli Nears a Major Milestone in Chennai Test Against Bangladesh
Indian cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting on 19th September in Chennai. All eyes are on Virat Kohli, who will return to the field after a long break from Test cricket. Kohli is on the brink of a significant achievement – he needs just 152 more runs to reach 9000 runs in Test cricket, a milestone only three other Indian cricketers have achieved.
Kohli’s Test Journey and Impressive Stats
Kohli, who made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies, has played 113 Test matches so far. In these, he has accumulated 8848 runs in 191 innings at an average of 49.15, including 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries. His highest score of 254* came against South Africa. If he manages to score the required 152 runs in the first Test match against Bangladesh, Kohli will join the prestigious 9000-run club in Test cricket.
Joining the Ranks of Indian Legends
Only three Indian cricketers have crossed the 9000-run mark in Tests: Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid. Gavaskar was the first Indian and the world’s first cricketer to reach this milestone in 1985, followed by Tendulkar in 2004 and Dravid in 2006. No Indian has touched this mark since then, although other greats like VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag came close. Kohli now has the opportunity to etch his name alongside these legends.
Could Kohli Be the Slowest to 9000?
Among the three Indian cricketers who have reached this milestone, Rahul Dravid was the fastest, achieving it in 176 innings. Sachin Tendulkar took 179 innings, while Sunil Gavaskar needed 192 innings. Kohli is currently at 191 innings. If he doesn’t manage to score the required 152 runs in his next innings, he may become the slowest Indian to reach 9000 Test runs. Nonetheless, this feat will further solidify his legacy as one of India’s finest Test batsmen.
With the India vs Bangladesh Test series around the corner, fans are excited to see if Virat Kohli can achieve this historic milestone in the upcoming match in Chennai.
