New Delhi: Yograj Singh, former cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, has once again made headlines with his outspoken comments. In a recent interview, Yograj Singh directed harsh criticism towards two of India’s cricketing legends—Kapil Dev, who led India to its first ODI World Cup victory in 1983, and MS Dhoni, under whose captaincy Yuvraj Singh achieved significant success.
Criticism of Kapil Dev
Yograj Singh’s remarks about Kapil Dev were particularly intense. He alluded to past grievances, suggesting that Kapil had wronged him during their playing days. Yograj stated, “The person whom you tried to bring down is now celebrated by the whole world. Look at what happened to those who did wrong—some are dealing with illness, some have faced personal tragedies. You can understand who I am talking about.”
He further added, “Kapil Dev might be considered the greatest captain of all time, but I told him that I would leave him in such a condition that the world would spit on him. Today, Yuvraj has 13 trophies, and what does Kapil have? Just one World Cup.”
Targeting MS Dhoni
Yograj Singh didn’t stop at Kapil Dev; he also took aim at MS Dhoni, whom he accused of ruining Yuvraj Singh’s career. “I will never forgive that person,” Yograj said about Dhoni, implying that the former captain’s decisions adversely affected Yuvraj’s cricketing journey. He suggested that Dhoni should have retired 4-5 years earlier, hinting that Yuvraj could have extended his career had Dhoni stepped aside sooner.
Interestingly, both Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni have never publicly responded to Yograj Singh’s claims. Under Dhoni’s leadership, Yuvraj played a pivotal role in India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, making him a key figure in those triumphs.
