In a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, a young contestant from West Bengal named Jayant Dubey captured the attention of millions. Hailing from the village of Agai in Bengal, Jayant took the hot seat opposite the legendary host, Amitabh Bachchan. His story not only left the audience in shock but also brought an emotional moment on the KBC stage.
Jayant, who is aspiring to become a teacher, shared his struggles with Big B. He revealed that his father runs a small grocery shop, and their monthly income is just around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. However, what truly stunned Amitabh Bachchan was Jayant’s revelation about the lack of basic sanitation in his village.
No Toilet in the Entire Village
Jayant shared that there is no toilet in his home or in the entire village of Agai. The situation is so dire that both men and women have no option but to go to the village pond for bathing. “We don’t have a toilet at home. In fact, there is no toilet in the whole village. Animals, men, and women—all use the pond for bathing,” Jayant said. He also expressed concern about the lack of awareness regarding the importance of sanitation, adding that even though some villagers have the means, they do not prioritize building toilets.
The story took a more distressing turn when Jayant revealed a personal incident. He recalled a time when he saw some boys watching his mother and sister while they were bathing at the pond. “It was a deeply disturbing and shameful experience,” Jayant said. Hearing this, Amitabh Bachchan became visibly emotional.
Amitabh Bachchan Promises to Build a Toilet for Jayant’s Family
Deeply moved by Jayant’s story, Amitabh Bachchan asked him how much it would cost to build a toilet. Jayant estimated the cost at around Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. Without hesitation, Amitabh responded, “No matter how much money you win on this show, we will get a toilet built in your house.” This heartfelt promise won the admiration of viewers and highlighted the ongoing issue of sanitation in rural India.
Jayant’s Dream to Prove Himself and Teach
As the game progressed, Jayant opened up about his passion for cricket. He mentioned that he was a well-known player in his college’s Eastern District Premier League (EDPL). However, life in the village wasn’t easy. Jayant revealed that some people in his village used to mock his education and knowledge. Coming to Kaun Banega Crorepati was his chance to prove them wrong. Big B, encouraging Jayant, said, “Now everyone will salute you.”
Jayant’s ultimate goal, he said, was to use his winnings to educate the very people who once made fun of him. He emphasized that education is the key to changing mindsets and improving lives in his village.
Jayant’s KBC Journey and Rs 25 Lakh Question
Jayant made an impressive run on the show, reaching the Rs 25 lakh question. The question was:
“The motto of which of these institutions is ‘Aa Setu Himachalam,’ which means ‘From Kanyakumari to the Himalayas’?”
The options were: A. Supreme Court of India
B. Indian Railways
C. Archaeological Survey of India
D. Survey of India
Jayant decided to use the ‘Video Call a Friend’ lifeline, but unfortunately, it didn’t provide the help he needed. After some contemplation, Jayant chose to quit the game rather than risk losing his winnings. Before leaving, he guessed option A (Supreme Court of India), but the correct answer was option D (Survey of India).
Despite not answering the final question correctly, Jayant left Kaun Banega Crorepati with a respectable prize of Rs 12.50 lakh, plus an additional Rs 3.20 lakh as a bonus. His story of resilience and determination, combined with Amitabh Bachchan’s kind gesture, made this episode unforgettable.
Jayant Dubey’s journey on KBC 16 serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges many rural communities still face in India, particularly in terms of basic sanitation.
