Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, hosted by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, saw an interesting mix of contestants in the latest episode. Two participants had contrasting journeys—one successfully winning a significant amount, while the other struggled with a tricky question despite using a lifeline.
Mumbai Lawyer Shruti Somaiya’s Journey
The episode began with the Fastest Finger First round, where Shruti Ramdas Somaiya from Mumbai secured her spot in the hot seat. Shruti, a lawyer by profession, shared an inspiring story about her love for animals. She initially studied psychology but decided to pursue law after rescuing a cat on a rainy day. This incident ignited her passion for animal welfare, leading her to save over 30–35 animals. She credited her pet cat as her biggest inspiration in life.
Shruti played confidently and reached a winning amount of Rs 1,60,000. She also received an additional bonus of Rs 40,000, making her journey even more memorable.
MP’s Contestant Priyal Faces a Setback
After Shruti’s exit, Amitabh Bachchan welcomed Priyal, a student from Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. Priyal is in her final year of BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) and has a keen interest in sketching. During the lockdown, she honed her skills by following YouTube tutorials. She even showcased some of her sketches to Big B, who was impressed with her artistic talent. Priyal revealed that she has been sharing her artwork on Instagram and is earning money through orders.
Priyal played steadily and crossed the Rs 10,000 mark. However, her journey took an unfortunate turn when she faced the Rs 40,000 question.
The Question That Changed Everything
The question was: Arma Konda, the highest point in Andhra Pradesh, is located in which mountain range?
Unsure about the answer, Priyal opted for the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, which allows two attempts. She first chose option B) Aravalli, which was incorrect. She then selected option C) Shivalik, which was also wrong. The correct answer was ‘Eastern Ghats.’
Since both her attempts were incorrect, Priyal’s winnings dropped to just Rs 10,000. Amitabh Bachchan looked visibly shocked at her misfortune, but he encouraged her to continue chasing her dreams.
Although Priyal couldn’t win a larger amount, her passion for sketching and determination to pursue higher studies remain her true strengths. Her story continues to inspire many young aspirants watching the show.
