Mukti Mohan, a renowned actress and dancer, has been making waves in the entertainment industry. With her recent cinematic ventures, she has been in the spotlight, not only for her professional achievements but also for the personal lessons she’s shared with her audience. From her early experiences of standing up against harassment to her journey in the film industry, Mukti’s story is one of resilience, empowerment, and unwavering determination.
Childhood Lessons in Strength and Resilience
Growing up in Delhi, Mukti was instilled with a sense of strength and resilience from a young age. Her mother and elder sister, Neeti Mohan, a celebrated singer, played a crucial role in shaping her outlook on dealing with adversity. “My mother and Neeti always taught me to never remain silent if someone mistreats you,” Mukti recalls. “They said, if someone bothers you, stand up for yourself. This lesson has stayed with me throughout my life.”
Mukti shared a pivotal experience from her school days that highlighted this upbringing. “I was in Class 8, traveling on a DTC bus in Delhi, when a man started misbehaving with me. As the bus slowed down at a signal, I decided not to stay silent. I kicked him hard, and he fell off the bus. That moment was empowering for me,” she says, reflecting on the incident that left a lasting impact on her.
Embracing Her Inner Strength
Mukti’s journey in the entertainment industry has been marked by her ability to channel the strength she learned as a child into her career. “Even when I was in Mumbai, auditioning in places like Andheri and Goregaon, I never tolerated any disrespect. If someone stared at me inappropriately, I would confront them immediately,” she explains. This assertiveness has helped her navigate the challenges of the industry with confidence.
Her upbringing not only prepared her for the struggles she might face as a woman but also fueled her passion for her craft. “I have always enjoyed dancing and acting equally. Both forms of art allow me to express myself fully, and I approach them with the same rhythm and heart,” Mukti says. This passion is evident in her recent work, including her latest film, A Wedding Story, where she takes on a significant role in a story that blends legend, horror, and drama.
A Memorable August: Three Releases and a Breakthrough
The month of August has been particularly significant for Mukti, with three of her films hitting the screens. “This has been one of the most beautiful phases of my life,” she admits. “First, Gyaar Gyaar was released, followed by Life Hil Gayi, and finally, A Wedding Story. Each project brought something unique to my career, and I am incredibly grateful for the recognition, especially for my small role in Gyaar Gyaar, which received a lot of praise.”
Mukti’s debut as a leading actress in A Wedding Story marks a new chapter in her career. “This is my first full-fledged film as a heroine. If this had happened a few years ago, my reaction might have been different. But now, after years of working in the industry, I have a deeper understanding of acting and art. I believe this was the right time for this opportunity,” she reflects.
Overcoming Setbacks and Finding Success
Mukti’s journey hasn’t been without its setbacks. She openly shares how several of her films were made but never released, a common challenge in the industry. “I never allowed these setbacks to disappoint me. I always believed that my time would come,” she says with conviction. Her perseverance paid off as she continued to hone her craft and prepare for the right opportunities.
One of the most challenging periods in her career came in 2018 when she lost a role in a play after preparing for it for three months. “I was heartbroken. I was giving numerous auditions at that time, but nothing seemed to work out,” she recalls. It was her father who offered her a lifeline. “He asked me if I wanted to tell a story, to do a play. When I said yes, he handed me one of his poems and challenged me to turn it into a story for the children in our society during Navratri. I took up the challenge, and we eventually performed it at Prithvi Theatre and Kuku Club. That experience reignited my passion and made me feel successful in my own eyes.”
