In the world of Bollywood, clashes at the box office are common, but now a new kind of showdown is brewing on television. Two of Bollywood’s most controversial figures, Salman Khan and Kangana Ranaut, may soon find themselves competing for TRPs as their reality shows, Bigg Boss and Lock Upp, are rumored to air simultaneously.
Kangana’s Lock Upp to Compete with Salman’s Bigg Boss
Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature and bold stances, is reportedly set to return with the second season of her reality show Lock Upp. The show, which first aired on Ekta Kapoor’s OTT platform Alt Balaji, became a hit, with comedian Munawar Faruqui emerging as the winner. Interestingly, Munawar went on to participate in and win Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss.
After a three-year hiatus, Lock Upp is making a comeback, but this time, it’s not just an OTT release. Sources suggest that Season 2 of Lock Upp will be broadcast on both TV and OTT platforms. The buzz is that the show might air on Zee TV, which is looking to boost its reality show lineup to compete with other channels like Colors TV and Sony TV.
Bigg Boss 18 to Premiere Soon
Meanwhile, Salman Khan is gearing up for the 18th season of his popular reality show Bigg Boss. Salman has been the face of Bigg Boss for the past 15 years, and the show continues to be a major draw for audiences. The new season is set to replace Rohit Shetty’s Khatron Ke Khiladi in October and is expected to run for 3 to 4 months. The process of selecting contestants is already underway, with names like Shoaib Ibrahim, Faizu, Sameera Reddy, and Digvijay Singh reportedly being approached.
Will the Shows Clash?
Despite the widespread speculation of a clash between Bigg Boss and Lock Upp, there’s more to the story. Both shows are produced by Endemol Shine, the company behind the Bigg Boss franchise in India. Given this, airing two similar format reality shows at the same time could lead to a “conflict of interest.” As a result, industry insiders believe that the airing of Lock Upp may be postponed to avoid direct competition with Bigg Boss.
As fans eagerly await the return of both shows, it remains to be seen whether Kangana Ranaut and Salman Khan will indeed go head-to-head in a battle for TRPs or if the two shows will find their own unique time slots to dominate the television landscape.
